NEW YORKER Lions are German Vice Champions
On Saturday, 7 October 2017, the time had finally come: The NEW YORKER Lions met their rivals from GFL South, the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns, in the German Bowl XXXIX. The NEW YORKER Lions lost 13:14 in an exciting German Bowl XXXIX until the very last second, ending the season as runners-up in the GFL for the first time since 2013.
In front of more than 13,500 spectators, the two football giants met in the championship final at the Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark in Berlin for the fourth time in a row. From the beginning, the game was marked by constant rain and developed into a defensive battle.
It was the first ever defeat for the NEW YORKER Lions in a very strong 2017 season and David McCants from Braunschweig became MVP (most valuable player) that evening.
We are proud of the performance and team spirit of our NEW YORKER Lions and congratulate them on their runner-up title and a great 2017 season!
Thanks to all the fans who travelled with us and supported our Lions!
