New Single „Love Me Land“: NEW YORKER News-Interview with Zara Larsson
Swedes are musical. ABBA, Ace of Base and Roxette are the proof for that. In relation to the number of inhabitants, Sweden is the country with the most successful music industry. Zara Larsson, born in 1997 in Solna near Stockholm, seems to have been born with a love for music. At the age of eleven, she won the Swedish version of "Das Supertalent" and four years later, at 15, she achieved platinum status in her home country with the song "Uncover", opening the doors to international record contracts. Collaborations with well-known names from the music industry followed. For the European Football Championship 2016, Zara gave us a catchy tune with the anthem "This One's for You", produced by star DJ David Guetta. Her debut album "So Good", which was released the same year, performed well in the charts and she released eight singles. But Zara Larsson is not only interested in music. She also uses her platform and presence in social media to draw attention to social issues. Women's rights is one of them. Also, she has spoken out passionately alongside the #blacklivesmatter movement. In 2018 her song "Ruin My Life" was released, which is about people who put obstacles in your path - and which laid the foundation for her new album. Now she surprises us with another track from it, "Love Me Land", which will be officially released on 10th July. On this special occasion we have asked her some questions.
After months of lockdown, it's going back out. What is your favorite place to enjoy the sunny weather now?
There’s a lake opposite the Crown Princess’ palace in Stockholm that me and my friends like to hang out on. It’s so nice now it’s light nearly all night.

You are now 22 years old and have spent half of your life successful in the music business. Did you ever had a Plan B besides music?
Honestly all I ever wanted to do was sing. I only ever had a plan A. I just wanted to sing! But if I wasn’t gonna be a singer, I would have been an ice princess.

With "Invisible" you contributed a track for the Netflix animation movie "Klaus". Do you like animated films or which are your favourite series?
I love animated films. My favourite is Zootopia/Zootropolis PERIOD! My favourite series at the moment is I May Destroy You - I honestly think Michael Coel is a genius.

A broken mobile phone recently caused you to take a social media break and did you enjoy the time without postings or miss the virtual life?
Sometimes it’s nice to be reminded that the real world isn’t on your screen, I do love social media and I want to see what my friends are up to but it was nice to have a break from the pressure to update people about what I’m doing.

Which pop legend would you like to work with?
There’s so many people I would love to work with but imagine if I could reunite ABBA and collaborate with them! That would be amazing.

What's your soundtrack for the summer?
My soundtrack for the summer is probably „Everywhere“ by Fleetwood Mac.
