Recipe Tip: A Vitamin boost
Whether green or pink power - NEW YORKER News has two different vitamin bombs in smoothie form for you - perfect for covering the recommended daily requirement of vegetables and fruit.
Do you prefer sweet or a bitter, fresh flavour? As far as smoothies are concerned, they are so versatile that flavours can completely differ. Consequently, we have a recipe for fruit lovers as well as for vegetable fans. One smoothie consists of pure fruit, the other mainly of vegetables and herbs and is rounded off with sweet apples. Both smoothies can also be made without a juicer and provide plenty of Vitamin C. Of course you don't have to follow the two recipes exactly, you can vary according to your tastes and add or omit fruit and vegetables. So let's give it a try!

Fruit smoothie with orange, raspberry, banana & ginger

Ingredients (for about 1 litre):
  •  3-4 large oranges
  • 2 bananas
  • 125 g raspberries
  • 1 piece of ginger, peeled (depending on taste)
  • Ice cube

Method:

Squeeze oranges. Peel the piece of ginger and grate it very finely. Put it into the blender jug together with the rest of the ingredients, mix well for about two minutes and enjoy.

Vegetable smoothie with avocado, basil, ginger, apple & lemongrass

Ingredients (for 2 smoothies):
  • 1/2 cucumber, juiced
  • 1 small avocado
  • 1 handful of basil
  • 1 stalk of lemongrass
  • 1 thumb-sized piece of ginger
  • 3 apples, juiced - so that you get about 300 ml juice (alternatively use apple juice from the bottle or Tetrapak)
  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice

Method:
  1. First, peel the ginger and grate it finely. Wash the basil and squeeze the lemon. Remove the outer two layers of the lemongrass stalk, then chop the inside finely. Wash the cucumber, cut it into large pieces and juice it. If you don't have a juicer, you can also simply puree the cucumber in a blender. Cut the avocado in half, remove the core and scrape out the avocado with a spoon.

  2.  Put all ingredients in a blender or smoothie maker and mix well. If the consistency is too thick, add  some more water.
